Schleswig-Holstein, the northernmost state of Germany, is the only German federal state that has coasts on both the North and Baltic Seas. It encompasses Kiel, the state’s capital city, Luebeck and Flensburg, and 11 counties. Traditional industries of Schleswig-Holstein include agriculture, livestock farming, shipbuilding and tourism. Recent years has seen the rapid development of the electrical industry, precision machinery industry, marine technology, medical technology, software, energy and environmental technology in the state. Schweiner-Holstein, famous for its tourist and recuperational attractions, is the second most popular destination for domestic travellers in Germany for many years.
