Flevoland, the youngest province in the Netherlands, was founded in 1986 as a result of land reclamation. Lelystad is the capital city and Almere is the largest city. The province was built with a sound zoning plan that made reasonable provisions for buildings, arable land, roads, forests and residential areas. Located at the heart of Europe, the province is easily accessible by sea, land and air. With well-developed infrastructure, cheap land and highly qualified labor force, the province has been chosen by many multinational corporations as the top choice for their European offices or plants. Flevoland is advanced in modern agriculture, science and technology, and fishery, producing potatoes, vegetables and flowers. Its main industries include agricultural machinery, electronics, chemicals, printing and agricultural product processing. Flevoland has a high forest coverage with a sanctuary for migratory birds. The province, where nature and humanity are perfectly integrated, offers a number of livable small towns complete with recreational facilities.

Zhejiang and Flevoland established contact in 1997 and high-level exchanges began in 1999.
