Baranya is located in southwestern Hungary, 200 kilometers from the capital Budapest. It is bordered by the Danube River to the southeast where the rivers of Drava and Danube coverge and Croatia and Serbia to the south. It has a diverse population and is home to the largest number of ethnic Hungarians. The topography is varied in Baranya, with abundant natural resources. Its culture has retained century-old traditions. Pecs, the county seat, is where many cultural traditions and customs are well preserved to date, with a large number of artistic relics and historical sites, among which 750 are listed under protection. It is also where the state hosts modern scientific research events. One of Baranya's industrial strength lies in traditional winemaking. Tourism is its most rapidly growing industry and plays an important role in boosting the economy. Health tourism is the fastest growing sector thanks to its mountain spring resources rich in unique medicinal value, winery and world-renowned tourist attractions.
