Harare, meaning "the old man never sleeps" in the Shona language, is the capital and largest city of Zimbabwe. It is located in the central plateau, 1,470 meters above sea level, with an average annual temperature of 18℃ and a population of 2.1 million.
Harare was previously named Salisbury by white colonists in 1953 after the British Prime Minister. Historically, Harare and its surrounding areas were part of Harare in the Shona Emirate which was renamed after independence. Harare is not only the political, economic, cultural and financial center, but also the land and air transportation hub of Zimbabwe. It has developed basic capacity in some light and heavy industries and is one of the world's largest tobacco distribution centers with the world's largest tobacco auction floors. Its pleasant climate and beautiful environment contribute to its reputation as the "Garden City" and the "City of Flowers and Trees".
