  • Zhejiang Province is located in the southern part of the Yangtze River Delta in China's southeast coast, to the east of the East China Sea, south of Fujian Province, west of Jiangxi Province and Anhui Province, north of Shanghai and Jiangsu Province. Zhejiang, which literally means a zigzagging river, is named after Qiantang River, the largest river in the area. The province is often referred to as Zhe for abbreviation. Hangzhou is its provincial capital.

Zhejiang covers a land area of 105,500 square kilometers, spanning both 450 kilometers between south and north, east and west. It accounts for only 1.06% of the whole country and is one of its smallest provinces. It has a resident population of 58.50 million by the end of 2019.

Hangzhou and Ningbo are the two sub-provincial cities in the province. There are nine other prefecture-level cities, namely Wenzhou, Huzhou, Jiaxing, Shaoxing, Jinhua, Quzhou, Zhoushan, Taizhou and Lishui. All these 11 sub-provincial and prefecture-level cities are subdivided into 37 districts, 20 county-level cities, 32 counties and one autonomous county, 618 towns, 259 villages, and 488 sub-districts.
