    Rayong is located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, 185 kilometers away from Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand. It encompasses 6 districts and has a total coastline of about 100 kilometers. Rayong borders Chonburi province to the northwest, Chanthaburi province to the east and the Gulf of Thailand to the south. 

    The warm and humid tropical climate in Rayong brings abundant rainfall. The province has an average temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. The most pleasant season is from November to February while the two months of April and May are for fruit harvest. A city on the Rayong River, Rayong city along the Rayong River has many beautiful beaches and historic sites.

    Rayong is an important industrial base in Thailand. It is home to more than 1,300 industrial enterprises. Main industries include automobile, chemicals, steel, oil refining, natural gas and electricity. Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, a national industrial development area, is located in Rayong. The auto industry grows the fastest in recent years in Rayong. World-renowned auto manufacturers such as GM, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Nissan and BMW have set up factories in the province to serve the markets in Thailand and Southeast Asia, thus earning the province the reputation as Detroit in the East. Multinational corporations from Japan, South Korea, the United States and some European countries have also invested in the chemicals, metallurgy, oil refining and other industries in Rayong. 

    Rayong is a famous fishing port in Thailand, also known for rice production and aquaculture. It ranks among the top in Thailand in fruit farming and processing. There are cassava and rubber processing plants in the province.

    Zhejiang and Rayong established friendly exchange relations in August 2011.
