Museum of Majiabang Culture
The Museum of Majiabang Culture in Jiaxing began trial operation on International Museum Day on May 18, 2020. The museum covers an area of 8,000 square meters and exhibits unearthed relics from Majiabang ruins. It also showcases the distribution, features, geographical environment, and major influences of Majiabang culture. Majiabang culture, named after the Majiabang ruins discovered in Jiaxing in 1959, is the earliest prehistoric culture of the Taihu Lake region. It came about after Hemudu culture (7,000 years ago) and before the Liangzhu (5,300 to 4,300 years ago) culture. The the archaeological ruins of Liangzhu were inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2019.
